Richard Alexander Ankiel (pronounced /ˈæŋkiːl/; born July 19, 1979) is an outfielder in Major League Baseball who is currently playing for the Kansas City Royals. He bats and throws left-handed. Ankiel was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals up to the 2009 season. A pitcher up to the 2004 season, he switched to the outfield in March 2005 while playing in Puerto Rico's baseball league in March 2005, Ankiel decided to become an outfielder.
