The Best Loss (Warriors 101, Spurs 107)

By: Fast Break

27Apr2012

In going to ridiculous lengths to lose the season finale Thursday night, the Warriors’ post-Cohan management gave the clearest indication yet of its commitment to winning.  The Warriors started five rookies (the first time any team has done it...

Hopeless, Again (Wolves 88, Warriors 93)

By: Fast Break

23Apr2012

“Pyrrhic victory” (noun) — a victory achieved at a great or excessive cost; a ruinous victory.  So called after the Greek king Pyrrhus, who, after suffering heavy losses in defeating the Romans in 279 B.C., said to those sent to c...

Taking No Chances (Warriors 87, Lakers 99)

By: Fast Break

19Apr2012

The first rule of tanking is to not talk about tanking.  So while it may be good sport to badger Mark Jackson and the Warriors’ players about their current attempt at a swan dive to the bottom seven of the NBA standings, the chances of getting...

Running Out the Clock (Warriors 110, Blazers 118)

By: Fast Break

12Apr2012

The Warriors keep losing, but so do all the teams below them in the standings.  Wednesday’s 110-118 loss to the Blazer felt like many that came before it — the Warriors kept things close, but never really mounted a full-strength surge ag...

Still Rolling (Warriors 112, Lakers 120)

By: Fast Break

2Apr2012

The Warriors’ streak of draft-pick saving losses now stands at five.  But if the team plays its upcoming road games like this one, that streak may be in jeopardy soon.  When the Warriors hit their threes (11-21) and take care of the ball (5 t...

In Defense of Tanking (Warriors 100, Nets 102)

By: Fast Break

31Mar2012

Sun Tzu once observed that “[a]ll men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved.”  The Warriors won’t be conquering anything this season, but there’s strate...

Winning at Losing (Warriors 87, Hornets 102)

By: Fast Break

29Mar2012

Wednesday’s 87-102 loss to the New Orleans Hornets was one of the season’s worst defeats — or one of the best ones — depending on your perspective.  The Warriors haven’t looked more lifeless and passive in a game all ye...

Tough Enough (Warriors 101, Lakers 104)

By: Fast Break

28Mar2012

The Warriors’ games against the Lakers the past few years can be sorted into two categories: losses and embarrassments.  Thanks to Dominic McGuire and Brandon Rush, Wednesday’s 101-104 match-up fell into the former category.  After bein...

Less Preaching, More Teaching (Warriors 98, Bucks 120)

By: Fast Break

17Mar2012

I have no problem with the outcome of the Warriors’ 98-120 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.  But the way the Warriors lost it — particularly after two hard-fought games post-Ellis trade — leaves a lot to be desired.  The lack of healt...

Ideal (Warriors 103, Celtics 105)

By: Fast Break

15Mar2012

Given the context, the Warriors’ 103-105 loss to the Boston Celtics in Oakland Wednesday was just about perfect.  The team played the same unselfish, energetic, aggressive brand of basketball that it debuted in Sacramento the night before.  W...

Day One (Warriors 115, Kings 89)

By: Fast Break

14Mar2012

A weight has been lifted. I may end up regretting this win when the Warriors end up with the 8th pick.  But for now — in the context of the trade that just happened and with all the frustrations of the past few seasons still fresh — the...

The Corrections (Warriors 97, Clippers 93)

By: Fast Break

12Mar2012

For now, forget the playoff talk.  The Warriors should be focusing on correcting the mistakes that have left them below .500 for yet another season.  Sunday night, on the road, on the tail end of a back-to-back, against a playoff team, the Warriors...
